Good/No Jacket. Folio - over 12" - 15" tall. 650 engravings of exhibits at the 1851 "Great Exhibition of the Industry of all the Civilised Nations of the World" convened by HRH Prince Albert. Everythi ng is represented in the 500 pages including sculpture brought from the Acropolis of Greece to ormolu clocks from Paris and straight razors manufactured in Chicago. It is literally a catalogue illust r ative of the culture and mores of the mid-19th. century "civilized world." The engravings are steel and detailed. The biding is sound in half-leather; hinges and corners are scuffed but solid.
